East Perth Power Station became a State heritage site. The site was remediated and externally conserved but a re-use was not been found for it (by 2011).
East Perth remained a crucial part of the State’s electricity provision because the system’s Control Centre continued to be located there.
Urban renewal resulted in the construction of expensive housing and changed the area back to a picturesque place for recreation, where people enjoy the surroundings but the 20th century community of working people disappeared in the process.
The politics of climate change have seen challenges to monopoly control as well as to dependence on fossil fuels. East Perth Power Station’s era had passed.
